This page will consider Western thought from the ‘outside’, as it were, attempting to identify any taken for granted assumptions – which may or may not be justified – present in the social and economic theories examined elsewhere in the Blog.
For example, the source of the apparently universal assumption that social progress is effectively inevitable, will be sought. A second issue that will be pursued stems from the claim made by Tristram Hunt, here, that Marx’s theory was partially derived from ‘Judaeo-Christian’ assumptions.
